The Swingers

Do you ever wonder if God is still alive and active in our world today? If you have, read on and be amazed. Our patient had been with us before. She and her husband had decided to become ‘swingers’ (swingers have sex with a LOT of different people: 10-15 new people every few months). Swingers seek no emotional involvement, only the physical thrill. To ensure their health, they get STI testing in an attempt to make sure that they don’t infect their multiple partners with a disease and vice versa.

Our well-educated, beautiful patient visited our clinic in such a situation. Her first visit met with an attitude of complete confidence and a firm belief that she was doing everything right. This change in lifestyle had also caused a change in the expression of her faith. She stopped attending services when the leaders of her church courageously decided to excommunicate her.

Then her world of lies collapsed around her. Her spouse became emotionally involved with another woman, leading to an unwanted divorce. Family dinners became a thing of the past, but Scripture assures us that God heals the broken hearted. Although she initially preferred not to chat with the advocate, she acquiesced and entered into a soul transforming conversation led by the Holy Spirit. She felt betrayed and alone. Her heart had remained faithful, but the advocate explained that the gift of intimacy is so much more than physical or emotional. The ability to create other humans in the image and likeness of God is the greatest physical gift God gave us, and marriage should reflect the Trinity in its fruitfulness and love. She was so interested in growing in her faith. Although she initially didn’t want to stay for the conversation, she expressed incredible thankfulness that she did stay. It is a privilege to be a part of this mission.

Yes, God is alive and active, and He allows us to be broken-hearted so that we will turn to Him and be saved.
