Finally, our last amazing story this month stars one of our very first prenatal patients. We all love this mother who now has 4 children. The first time she came to us (the day before the baby’s father was murdered), she was pregnant with her 4th child. Throughout this horrible tragedy, we stood by her, supporting her as best we could with prayer and consolation, through the pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage.
A bit later, she returned pregnant again, and she became one of our first prenatal patients. Her beautiful baby was born, but the father of this baby will likely never know his child, since he was recently incarcerated for a long time. Our patient came back for STI testing and possibly another pregnancy. As we talked, I assured her that she is worthy of a great guy, and she shouldn’t settle for just anyone. Through the Holy Spirit’s inspiration, I then suggested that maybe entering into sex was part of the problem. She surprised me when she replied that she had been wondering the same thing. She asked me how I met my husband, which gave me the opportunity to tell her that I really got to know my husband of almost 40 years when he elected to join me for church every Sunday. I then assured her that I would not have married him, if he had not.
Since she had begun taking her kids to church a few weeks prior, I encouraged her to persevere down that path and gave her our favorite piece of literature: 52 Sex Free Dates to Build Intimacy. I told her that if she abstains from sex throughout that time of dating, and he’s still with her, marry him! He is the one who truly loves her.
