Our patient came in for a pregnancy test and ultrasound. She had already had one abortion and really wanted to keep this baby. 7 months later she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. Then she got pregnant again, as often happens. This time, instead of coming to our clinic, she went to Planned Parenthood and took the first abortion pill. Within hours, she changed her mind. She called to have the abortion reversed, and our sonographer and clinic director met her at the clinic at 10:30PM in January. Sadly, the reversal failed, and she lost the baby.
Fast forward a few more months, and she was pregnant again. This time she was committed to keeping the baby… initially. We had opened our prenatal clinic, and she stayed with us as a patient, which offers so many more opportunities to be there when the questions of the heart arise. As she approached the 6 month gestational age, she told our Nurse Practitioner that she didn’t want this baby. Naturally, our NP was alarmed. Then our patient asked the question that can only be conceived by the Holy Spirit in a heart that has received the love of God through our feeble human offerings. She asked if abortion is wrong.
Our NP shot an arrow prayer up to heaven and explained why she thought that abortion is wrong. She continued to explain that we do not always want God’s will in this life. In fact, we often do not want it, but it is the best thing that we can do because it always stems from God who loves us. She went on to show how love is truly a sacrifice, and although she may not feel any love for her child right now, the love for this baby with grow just as it did with her son.
She credits her faith in God for helping her get through the very difficult patch of wanting to abort. She just gave birth, and I will try to include her photo in another entry!!
